Go Real-time

The experience sampling method (ESM) is the new gold standard in data collection

Using ESM, study participants are asked brief questions about the here-and-now, on regular but randomly sampled occasions. Responses are aggregated over time to provide a wealth of data. ESM was first applied in the 1970’s using beepers and paper diaries. PSYT has reimagined ESM for the smartphone era, making it simple to collect rich, accurate data from very large samples.

Uncover rich within-person variation that is undetectable by traditional methods

Gain ecological validity by surveying people as they go about their normal routines

Ask more questions and control for a greater range of confounding variables while avoiding study fatigue

Avoid cognitive biases and heuristics that plague retrospective self-report surveys
